What Is A KBMO Test?
What is it?
The KBMO food sensitivity test (FIT test) is a way to understand what foods you might be reacting to. It is a very reliable test, as some food sensitivity tests are not.
Food sensitivities happen when particles or food antigens cross the barrier of the gut lining. This causes an immune response, and the body reacts by producing IgG antibodies and the formation of immune complexes that activate complement (an immune marker).
The test measures just this- IgG food and immune complexes to certain food antigens. The FIT test also measures split complement protein C3d. The mechanism behind IgG/food immune complex driven inflammation is centered around the activation of complement (C3d).
These components are measured simultaneously with 132 different foods and food additives. This company has 3 different tests and levels can be measured by blood or serum. The test differs in the number of sensitivities it can detect- 22, 132, or 176. Then, you can consult KBMO’s nutrition team for consultation and support. The team designs an individualized elimination diet based on the results.
Here is a guide of what sensitivities can be detected
Add on Zonulin test:
Zonulin is a key maker in intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), which can in turn lead to food sensitivities. It is a good test to have done so we can tell if your gut integrity is compromised and help keep the barrier closed, therefore decreasing food reactions.
In a healthy gut, there are healthy cell junctions and good nutrient absorption. In a leaky gut, there are poor cell junctions and absorption is not so great. This means that bacteria and unwanted items can leak through the barrier and cause major issues.
How can I get the test:
Your functional medicine practitioner can become a practitioner with KBMO and order this test. You simply get the kit, follow instructions, and send back in. Typically, the results take 7-10 business days.
If you think you have food sensitivities, be on our waitlist and we will help you get to the root of the issue with a thorough history and putting the whole picture together.
