Sick Season Is Rapidly Approaching!

As parents know, the back-to-school season can also means sick season.

So, the germs are here and we can’t stop them, but we can help our kids from becoming sick by taking preventative measures. Let’s look at all the things you can do & what you can control:

  •  Vitamins will be your best friend during this time! - You might be wondering, “How am I going to get my kid to take vitamins?” GUMMIES!!! Most stores carry vitamins A, C, D, and multivitamin gummies.

  • Wash your hands or use sanitizer if a sink is not available. Now, this might seem like a given, but, washing your hands and/or sanitizing can drastically reduce your chances of becoming sick. Don’t take it to the extreme. We’re big believers that everything we do should be in moderation!

  • Cleaning goes side-by-side with washing your hands and sanitizing. It’s simple, but it makes a huge difference! It frees the clutter from our mind, too. Less stress = less likely to get sick.

  • Eating food that counts. What do we mean by food that counts? Healthy, nutrient-filled foods such as fruits, vegetables, clean protein, and healthy fats.

  • Sleep is so important! Getting enough sleep will help to prevent and fight colds and viruses. Our bodies do a lot more than you might think when we’re sleeping. Read this to learn more! Healthline: Sleep

  • I’m sure we all know about putting honey in tea when we aren’t feeling well, and there’s a good reason for it. Honey has antioxidant properties and can help relieve some minor pain.

Of course, taking these measures doesn’t mean you or your child will not get exposed to viruses; however, it will increase body immunity when exposed which increases the chances of fighting viruses early.

Let’s dive a little deeper into some of the best vitamins to help combat the sick season.

Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin”, but it’s a misconception that the sun can give us all the vitamin D we need. It helps reduce the risk of colds and flu. Daily supplementation offers great protection.

Vitamin C may help with preventing infections caused by bacteria and viruses making it a great idea to start supplementation now.

Vitamin A is essential for immune defense against both viral and bacterial infection because it influences immune development & supports the gut lining which is where 60% or more of your immune system is housed.

Zinc is great for boosting immunity & available in all types of forms (i.e. lozenge, capsule, etc.). If you take it within the first 24 hours of becoming sick, it can drastically reduce the severity of your sickness.
